  • 1.  Seeking Ideas for Part-Time Pathways in Online MSW Program

    Posted 23 days ago

Good morning, and Happy New Year, everyone!

I hope you are doing well. I am the Program Director for the online asynchronous MSW program at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York.

As we continue to develop our program, we recognize the need to create part-time options to accommodate the profiles of our prospective students-primarily adult learners working full-time.

Our primary challenge lies in designing pathways that allow students to complete their internship hours effectively within a part-time framework. We are exploring the development of four part-time pathways:

    • A 2-year and a 3-year plan for advanced standing students.
    • A 3-year and a 4-year plan for traditional two-year students.

I would greatly appreciate any creative ideas or strategies you might have for addressing this challenge. Your insights would be invaluable as we strive to meet the needs of our students.

Thank you in advance for your generosity in sharing your expertise. We're looking forward to paying it forward in the future.

    Warm regards,
    Katharine Dill

Hi Katharine, our online program is specifically part-time, so the standard degree plan is 2 years for advanced standing and 3 years for regular standing. This has actually been really helpful from the field perspective as none of our online students begin field right away, giving them more time to work with our field office on establishing placements. Advanced standing students are in field their 2nd year and regular standing students are in field the summer and fall of their 1-2 year, and then again their final year. Our degree plans can be found here .

    Best,
