I am working on a Field Finds literature review for Field Educator that explores the research on field education in online BSW and MSW programs.
As I shape this review, I would love to hear from field directors, faculty, and practitioners about the key themes, challenges, and innovations you have observed in online BSW and MSW field education. Specifically, I would appreciate your insights on:
- Key Research & Resources – Are there foundational studies, reports, or articles that should be included?
- Emerging Trends – What innovative approaches (e.g., employment-based placements, remote supervision models, simulation labs, technology-enhanced field learning, use of AI) are programs using to ensure high-quality field education?
- Placement Challenges & Solutions – How are programs addressing the difficulty of securing in-person field placements for online BSW and MSW students, particularly in rural or underserved areas? Or other unanticipated challenges and/or solutions.
- Accreditation & Standards – How are programs ensuring that geographically dispersed students meet CSWE competency-based field education requirements?
I welcome any articles, experiences, or insights you can share. I would value connecting with you further to discuss your perspectives and, if appropriate, highlight examples of innovative practices in the literature review.
