Hello Fellow Field Directors,
I have a question about the different models for Field Education. Our current model is a 12-month Director with 100% administrative responsibilities for both the BSW and MSW program and an Assistant Director who has a 50% teaching and 50% administrative responsibility.
Our MSW generalist cohort is about 35-40 students, and the specialize MSW is about 65 students. The BSW program is much smaller with only 30-35 students per semester. The assistant Field Director currently teaches a section of Field Seminar either in the BSW or specialized MSW (depending on the need of the program). Since our MSW is twice as large as the BSW our need has been for them to teach in the MSW program the past three years. Prior to three years ago the Assistant Director taught in the BSW program.
My question is what other Field Education models are working out there? Our BSW director is stating that the BSW needs someone dedicated to BSW students and they should report to the BSW director. The MSW director supports this and stated it would be good to have a MSW Field person to report directly to the MSW director. These two positions would operate separately without a centralized Director of Field Education.
Since you are the experts on Field Education, I wanted to pick your brains on successful models you may be using.
