  • 1.  Ideas for an End-of-the-Year Workshop/Training for Field/Practicum Instructors

    Posted 28 days ago

    Greetings friends,

I am writing because I would love to hear your ideas about a one (1) hour CEU workshop/training that I could do for our field/practicum instructors. The workshop would be held in conjunction with our end-of-the-year luncheon and awards ceremony for the professionals who took time out of their busy work schedules to supervise our students during the academic year. The ability to acquire the free CEU during the workshop is just one of the ways we thank the instructors for working with our students. I do however, want the workshop to be interesting and connected to their work with BSW students, hence my request for your well-informed ideas.

Thanks for your time. Take care and I look forward to reading your valuable responses!

    Sincerely,
    Kashera

    Hello Kashera,

One idea is to offer a self-care type topic that could be presented as something to utilize with clients, client systems, future social work students, and to be utilized by the field/practicum instructors.  I'm thinking along the lines of a workshop on promoting self-efficacy and strategies to prevent threats to self-efficacy.

    Good luck!

    Stephanie

Good morning, Kashera, this is a great question and I love Stephanie's suggestion. I have a question for you: how do you choose your awards recipients and what awards do you give out? My co-director and I would like to include awards at our end of field celebration this year.

    Hello Johnette,

Thanks for the supportive feedback and your inquiry. To be honest with you, this will be my first year taking over this event. I asked my Program Director what has been done in years past to decide what awards would be given out and who the recipients would be. According to what she shared, my predecessor essentially gave certificates of appreciation to all our instructors and a special award for "Field/Practicum Instructor of the Year". Apparently, my predecessor selected that person based on who she believed earned the award; I'm not sure what criteria she used to make this decision, however.

This year, I plan to give the award to one of our instructors who saved the day by taking on an additional student in the middle of the semester. Unfortunately, the student in need's placement disrupted in the middle of the semester, at no fault of her own. This amazing professional who was already supervising one of our BSW students, graciously took this student on as well so that she could finish her hours and ultimately, graduate on time. We also plan to give attendees a few tokens of "swag" with the University's logo on them and 1 CEU for their participation in the event during the luncheon.

Hopefully this information was helpful and answered your question.

Take care and all the best,
    Kashera
