In our program, we have all students going into the field fill out a form indicating their interests, preferred location, access to transportation, etc. The program director and field director review all forms and then provide internship site contact information to the students to follow up with and set up interviews. We provide the contact information of 2-3 agencies that are a good match because in the past certain agencies would get inundated with phone calls, so since I joined the program the process has changed and seems to be working well. If a student has a specific agency they want to intern at, and the agency is not already on our list of vetted placements, I will follow up with the agency to ensure it would be an appropriate placement. If so, we then send the agency an affiliation agreement from the university to sign and they are added to our list of agencies for future students.

As director of field instruction I make contact with the organization to vet the placement. If I approve the placement I pass the information to the university compliance department who configures and takes care of the affiliation agreement process.
