    Hi Everyone,

If folks are willing to share, I'd be really interested to hear how other schools structure their field offices. How many people are part of your team? Are they faculty or staff? Full or part time? How many students is each field personnel responsible for?

We've done things a few different ways over the years and I'd love to hear what others have found to work best.

    I appreciate any information!

    Hi Melissa,

I was interested in this topic as well.

There is a thread created in Nov 2024 with responses that may be helpful:

I also would like to hear from people on this. A other questions I'll add to the mix:

    • Do you share field director and/or other field team members between BSW and MSW programs, or do you keep those roles separate? What do you see as pros and cons to either approach?
    • Does field staff work 9 or 12 months?
    • Who teaches your Seminar courses?

We are considering some changes to our structure and approach, and understanding how other programs approach these questions would be so helpful!

    Hi Sarah,

These are great additional questions. I can share some info about what we're currently doing.

We have a Director of Clinical Placements (me!) who oversees both the MSW and BSW field programs and then we have a Field Director for each program. So sort of the best of both worlds for both models. I think it makes sense for us to have dedicated Field Directors for each program but the structure we have with the three of us working together also allows for collaboration between the two programs. All three of us are staff who work 12 months. We do all teach classes occasionally (often seminar) in an adjunct position. Other sections of seminar that we do not cover are taught by other full-time faculty and/or adjuncts.

I hope you get some feedback from others too! If you'd like to chat more, let me know.

    Melissa

Until this semester, I was a department of one with 86 students. I was recently granted two part-time support staff. I envision each staff member having about 35 students.

Our BSW and MSW are not combined (yet). We have a director for each program. I work in the MSW program and am a 12-month employee; my colleague in the BSW program is a 9-month employee. I teach seminar classes along with some other MSW faculty.

    Hope this helps.
