  • 1.  Crowdsourcing veterinary social work resources

    Posted 10 days ago

    Hi all,

Hope you are doing well and taking good care!

I'm looking for resources about veterinary social work as I attempt to build a new local placement, and am wondering if any of you have some things that might be helpful to share?

I did do a search of this SPARK Community's archives and found a post from 2023 where folks were similarly inquiring, and I downloaded at least one intern position description (NYC MSW Intern Position Description) linked there.

I am currently working with a student on this who will be reaching out to the University of Tennessee's VSW program as well, but in the interim, I would be genuinely grateful for any intern position descriptions, veterinary social worker job descriptions, recommendations of resources and/or contacts, etc.

Many thanks in advance for your consideration here, and also for the myriad of other things you do,

    Jean

Hi Jean- Massachusetts has a veterinary school, the Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton MA.  There is a great social work team there run by Eric Richman; https://vet.tufts.edu/counseling-and-support.  They provide care in the clinics for the family but also internal support for the staff, given the social/emotional challenges they see in providing care.
