  • 1.  ABA Centers as practicum sites

    Posted 20 days ago

    Hi, everyone!

Writing from the University of Montana's Online MSW Program :-)

We are seeing more requests for practicums at ABA Centers for Autism. We are curious if anyone else has experiences placing students at these sites and how you have ensured all micro, mezzo, and macro competencies are met given the focus primarily on individual therapy?

    Thank you so much!

    Kimberly,

We had a BSW student do an ABA placement last year, so a different level of practice but the mezzo and macro goals may give you some ideas. The agency where she was placed offered social skills groups for different ages, so she based her mezzo goals around that context. For the macro competencies she focused on state-level advocacy work her agency was engaged in, related to changing Medicaid rules to cover ABA in the school setting. Hopefully this helps!

    Hi!

We have a student in our BSW program who is at an Autism center.  I also have a daughter who works in an Autism center in Texas.

They have different levels of interaction and modalities for those who are practitioners, and those who are support staff for the students, and clinicians.

    I hope this is helpful,

    Nan
