Bio

I am currently the Assistant Dean of Field Education and Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY Stony Brook, where I chair the Field Education Committee and co-chairs the Curriculum Committee and Committee on Professionalism. I have been active as an educator, court appointed forensic evaluator, and clinician for over 10 years and am an LCSW, NYS Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor, and 4th year Ph.D. candidate at Adelphi University.

As an advocate for social justice and human rights, some of my co-authored publications speak to the need for inclusive human rights considerations in the pursuit of social justice. Topics of consideration include retributive and restorative justice, what it is to be a human rights defender, Clinical Interventions in the Criminal Justice System, examining race, law enforcement culture and social work practice, and the unmasking of cultural competence and oppressive practices in micro-aggressive environments.

My private practice, Preferential Peace, LCSW, PC encompasses clinical work while Obsidian & Indigo Consultants, LCSW, PC facilitates organizational training around DEI issues.

I am affiliated with the following organizations: Council on Social Work Education’s Council on Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity Member, The Urban League of Long Island’s State of Long Island Equity Council, NYS Social Work Educators Association Board Member, Board of Advisors for the Center for Children, Families, and the Law Board Member, National Association of Black Social Workers Member, National Center for Institutional Diversity, University of Michigan Diversity Scholars Network Member, National Organization of Forensic Social Workers.
