  • 1.  Field Practicum Seminar Ratio

    Posted Jan 26, 2024 14:02

As our program moves along, I am needing insight on what the average faculty to student ratio is for a Seminar course. I really enjoy having the thorough discussions with the students and feel that a bigger group size makes it harder for students to share and learn from each other at times. Does your university have more than one seminar course offered once it gets to a certain size?

    Thank you.

    Hi Summer,

We run multiple sections of seminar to keep our section sizes between 8-12 students maximum. I hope this information is helpful.

If we have more than 8 students in a senior seminar section we usually have a 2nd faculty.  With 11 in seminar this winter we are allowed to have 2 full course slots for senior seminar.

Hello Summer - we cap our seminar sections at 8 students. Sometimes we have 9, but we really do not allow our seminar sections to go over that.

    Hello Summer,

Usually, the number for seminar was 12-15 in my previous institutions.  We utilized adjuncts to support in the Liaison role. Preference was individuals who were in private practice.  It minimized conflicts of interests with students placed at agencies where someone may have worked.  I hope this is helpful.  Take care...Karen
