Winners of the 2023 Excellence in Field Scholarship Prize Announced
Simmons School of Social Work and Field Educator sponsor an annual award to promote excellence in field education scholarship. A $500 prize is awarded for outstanding scholarly research in social work field education. We are pleased to announce this year's winners are Deslie Bonano-Broussard, Andrea Henry, Nakeisha Williams, and Denise Mitchell from Tulane University and Shahnaz Savani from University of Houston-Downtown. Their paper, Social Work Field Education During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Scoping Review of the Literature, is published in the Spring 2023 issue of Field Educator.
The prize committee selected the article due to its methodological rigor and; relevance in developing understanding of an essential issue of our time, and for its contribution to advancing innovation in field education. Additionally, this article serves the vital function of documenting social work history by describing what happened in our profession during the COVID-19 crisis. Understanding and taking lessons from the COVID-19 crisis between January 2020 and January 2022 enhances field work adaptability, accommodation, and preparation for future crises, and it informs responses to ongoing consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. This scoping review demonstrates how the scholarly literature advances understanding and knowledge of the communal undertaking of responding to a global pandemic, and solidifies a foundation for future research.
All articles accepted for publication in the field scholar section of the Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 editions of Field Educator are eligible for the 2024 Excellence in Field Scholarship Prize. Please visit the "How to Submit" webpage for instructions on types of articles acceptable for the field scholarship section and updated submission deadlines.
