The theme for Social Work Month 2023 is "Social Work: Breaking Barriers."

This celebration, which runs annually in March, is a time to engage the public as well as policymakers and legislators and educate them about the ways social workers have broken barriers when it comes to the services they provide in an array of sectors. Social workers are on the front lines in hospitals and mental health centers; federal, state, and local government; schools; community centers; and social service agencies, advocating for inclusivity and innovation.

Can you name some of the amazing social workers who have driven significant and positive changes in communities around the nation? NASW offered several great examples drawing from the history of the profession, including Ida B. Wells, George Edmund Haynes, Whitney M. Young, Frances Perkins. We'd like to build on that list by asking you to share your thoughts on the great work of social work educators and the next generation of social workers.

Who is breaking barriers in your corner of the CSWE universe? What work are they doing? What do they and the work they are doing mean to you?

Please share this discussion thread with your networks and post your content below by Friday, March 17. We'd love to share your stories and recollections with our broader audience and celebrate the barrier-breaking work of these social work champions.
