    Keynote Presenters:

     

    Special Recognition of Dr. Lorraine M. Gutiérrez and Keynote

     

    Edith A Lewis Collegiate Professor Emerita of Social Work, Arthur F Thurnau Professor Emerita, Professor Emerita of Social Work, School of Social Work and Professor of Psychology Emerita, College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. Professor Lorraine Gutiérrez has a joint appointment with the School of Social Work (SSW) and Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan and is a faculty associate in American Culture. Her teaching and scholarship have focused on multicultural praxis in communities, organizations, and higher education. She has worked in community-based practice and research in multiethnic communities in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit, and Seattle. Her work has identified strategies for multicultural community-based research and practice, multicultural education for social work practice, and effective methods for learning about social justice. Her contributions to undergraduate education have been recognized by the Arthur F. Thurnau Professorship. She has served as an editor for the Journal of Community Practice and the Journal of Social Work Education. 

     

    Dr. Vincent Guilamo-Ramos is the Executive Director of the Institute for Policy Solutions at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and Director of the Center for Latino Adolescent and Family Health. He is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and licensed primary care and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with a clinical focus on the prevention and treatment of HIV and STIs among youth. Dr. Vincent Guilamo-Ramos has been instrumental in guiding the LSWO and we appreciate his high concern for professional development of Latinx social workers.

     

    Yvonne Castañeda, LCSW, Boston College School of Social Work

    Yvonne Castañeda is the director of Community-based Initiatives and a part-time faculty member at the BC School of Social Work. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Florida International University, and a Master of Social Work from Boston College, where she was a proud member of the Latinx Leadership Initiative. Author of: Pork Belly Tacos with a Side of Anxiety: My Journey Through Depression, Bulimia, and Addiction (Santa Monica Press (February 22, 2022)

     

    Features:

    • New Higher Education Workshops: Facing the demands of MSW, PhD, and DSW and specialization certificates. (3 Social Work faculty will lead these workshops)
    • Many Schools of Social Work will be in person to share their online/hybrid programs. We encourage for students to attend these Social Work programs.
    • Latinx School Social Work Panel: Responding to Migrant Families (Plenary Session)
    • Protect Your License (PYL): Many social workers are not aware of their Licensure Sunset year, and changes to their license.
    • LSWO International Symposium: Outcomes of our Oaxaca Initiative will be shared, and discussion about future Symposiums in Mexico
    • Many Latinx Social Work faculty, PhD students, and Professional social workers will be presenting at this conference.
