    Hello,

My university just announced that they are scrubbing the words "diversity" and "equity" from the website, program and course descriptions, LMS, etc.  I, as BSW program director, am being asked to revise our program description and change course names.  I'm wondering if this is happening for other social work programs at other universities.

    Thanks.

Yesterday we had our university's last Diversity Advisory Team meeting. The team will still meet with slightly different focus, but will have a new title. (Community, Access, & Belonging Advisory Team is the working title. (I'm suggesting Team become League so we can be the CABAL.)) We are in the state of Iowa where our government is working hard to mirror the EOs. At this point, academic units aren't being asked to scrub the language. Everything else is undergoing revisions.

We have not had any directives at our university...yet.
But I'm wondering what the implications are for accreditation. Our programs' competencies are measuring exactly what the EOs are trying to wipe out.

    Devon,

Thanks for asking this question. I am also curious about this. I am also wondering about field placements and the language used in CSWE EPAS.

Since our learning contracts are based on CSWE competencies which include clear anti-racist and anti-oppressive language, there may be instances when we have students placed with Federal agencies or agencies that receive funding from the government. Are there suggestions on how to address any agency/supervisor concerns with our learning contract language or if they say that they cannot operate under our learning contract because of the language we utilize? For example, a student placed at the VA who has a learning contract in place, but the VA is no longer able to utilize the same language we use in the learning contract and the supervisor is concerned about breaking federal rules.

While we have not had this arise as of yet, I am trying to be prepared and proactive if/when it does happen. Have any of you experienced this yet?

There was a really helpful webinar the other day put on by CSWE Education called: "Safeguarding Social Work Education and Science in Uncertain Times"

It provided really good information about this topic. The general recommendation for language was to consult with your CSWE accreditation specialist.
There will be future webinars as well so keep an eye out.
