Hi All! I am a Professor of Social Work and Founding Director of the Social Work Programs at Wingate University. My journey to social work began over thirty years ago when, burned out on too many hours completing a M.A. in South Asian History from The Florida State University, I stopped at a pay phone in Georgia and called Peace Corps toll-free. My month studying as a college student in Nepal led to 2.5 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nicaragua. This changed everything about my journey, leading me to an MSW and PhD in social work at the University of South Carolina. At the core, I am a macro social worker and have worked in everything from outreach to migrant and seasonal farmworkers in the middle of tobacco fields to development of state and federal grant proposals with people wearing business suits. I also have over 20 years of experience teaching in higher education and especially love opening the minds of students to the vast possibilities of the social work profession. Currently, I am in charge of building Wingate University's MSW Program for the ground up and look forward to welcoming the Inaugural Cohort in August 2024! Our MSW Program's specialization is Transformative Social Work in the Beloved Community.
