    CSWE Government Relations (GR) is sharing the following funding opportunities from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  CSWE GR is able to provide high-level context about these opportunities.

    The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) published three funding opportunities connected to key health disparity research that is aligned with NINR's Research Framework.  The fiscal year (FY) 2023 Omnibus provided the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with $45 million in targeted funding for research on identifying and reducing health disparities including $10 million to NINR.  This targeted $10 million likely was used to support some of the funds for each of the funding opportunities listed below:

    • RFA-NR-23-002: "Advancing Integrated Models (AIM) of Care to Improve Pregnancy Outcomes among Women who Experience Persistent Disparities (R01)."

    This funding opportunity is soliciting applications with a focus on research that develops or evaluates supportive care models that will address the adverse pregnancy outcomes in racial and ethnic minority women.  Research can include original interventions or the evaluation of organizational policies and programs focused on pregnancy outcomes.  The solicitation is specifically interested in outcomes that contribute to maternal mortality and morbidity, including but not limited to hypertension, obesity, cardiomyopathy, and substance abuse.  The issuing institutes and centers intend to commit up to $4 million to fund four to six awards.  The project period is for 5 years. Applications are due May 1, 2023, by 5:00 pm local time of applicant organization.     • RFA-NR-23-003: "Evaluating the Impact of Pandemic Era related Food and Housing Policies and Programs on Health Outcomes in Health Disparity Populations (R01)."

    This funding opportunity is soliciting applications to investigate "the ongoing and long-term health impacts of disruptions in food and housing security experienced during the pandemic era and the role of target policy and programmatic actions in mitigating those impacts."  Specifically, applicants should propose projects that evaluate how government policies on food and housing during the pandemic educed disruptive impacts and influenced health and health equity in health disparity populations.  The issuing institutes and centers intend to commit up to $4 million to fund four to six awards.  The project period is for 5 years.  Applications are due May 1, 2023, by 5:00 pm local time of applicant organization.  A technical assistance webinar will be held March 20, 2023, at 3:00 pm ET.  Register for this webinar at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_XsRRbNLAS1mFOwLEePkldA.

    • RFA-NR-23-004: "Clinical-Community Linkages to Address Social Needs and Social Conditions to Advance Health Equity among Populations Experiencing Health Disparities: The Bridge-to-Care Initiative (R01)."

    This funding opportunity is soliciting research studies that link clinical care with community resources aiming to address the social circumstances and conditions that may be a detriment to health outcomes.  The intention is to use these research outcomes to reimagine health care and make improvements that reduce and/or eliminate health disparities and advance health equity.  NINR intends to commit up to $4 million to fund four to six awards.  The project period is for 5 years.  Applications are due May 1, 2023, by 5:00 pm local time of applicant organization.  A technical assistance webinar will be held March 22, 2023, at 2:00 pm ET.
