I'm curious what your programs require or encourage in terms of accepting late assignments from students (BSW or MSW). Our program wants to implement a single program policy (rather than instructor's discretion per course) which sounds good but some faculty would like a no tolerance policy implemented (only emergencies identified in the University policy are exceptions). The University policy is pretty easy to agree on -- death of an immediate family member, significant illness (with medical excuse?), and those with University approved accommodations. So, technology issues, work schedules, vacations, forgetting, or too many competing assignments are NOT excusable. I prefer to use a points/percent deduction per day late which encourages the student to still make an effort to complete the assignment (and thus learn something). While we want students to learn professional responsibility, time management, and accountability, a penalty for late work can still mimic "real life" AND give them a chance to learn the material.
Thoughts?
