National Association of Deans and Directors (NADD)

Dear NADD colleagues,

I hope many of you are enjoying time together in Anaheim!  I'm sorry I can't be there too (I just left APHA in Boston).

I'm completing my 6^th and final year as chair of the Department of Social Work at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).  I want to make sure you all have our chair position announcement (attached), as well as the announcement for an assistant professor position (with focus on Mental/Behavioral Health).

I've had a great time in the chair position (building off the legacy of my predecessor, Dr. Martell Teasley!).  I became chair shortly after tenure, so I'm looking forward to a year of research leave after May 2023, and then I'll return to the UTSA faculty afterwards.

Please share our chair position announcement in your networks – the department is in strong shape. San Antonio is a good place to live, research, and practice social work, and my colleagues and I are looking forward to the future as we build a new BSW program and interdisciplinary PhD program in applied community research.  Through an internal university grant program, we already have a dedicated BSW Program Director to shepherd the new program through accreditation. Our MSW program (reaffirmed by CSWE in 2021) is thriving, and was a national finalist this year for the Excelencia in Education "Example of Excellence award" as a graduate program showing evidence of increasing Latino student success in higher ed.  UTSA attained Carnegie R1 status this past year, so a lot is going on here!
