Our field faculty engage in field and academic advising. At times boundaries can be blurred when students start to share personal information when meeting with advisors. Our faculty are very committed to developing relationships with their students, but the question is how to set appropriate boundaries. What is the goal of advising, what are the limits, etc. We have had a lot of discussion around this, but would be interested in hearing from others.
