CSWE Government Relations (GR) is sharing four funding opportunity announcements (FOA) from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  CSWE GR is able to provide high-level context about these opportunities.

The NIMH has issued a set of FOAs to encourage research focused on developing and testing system-level interventions and strategies to improve systematic risk identification, coordinated referral to, or engagement and retention in quality care for prevention of suicide ideation and behavior among Black children and adolescents, and youth from underserved populations. The FOAs include:

    • RFA-MH-21-185: Systems-Level Risk Detection and Interventions to Reduce Suicide, Ideation, and Behaviors in Black Children and Adolescents (R01 Clinical Trial Optional)
    • RFA-MH-21-186: Systems-Level Risk Detection and Interventions to Reduce Suicide, Ideation, and Behaviors in Black Children and Adolescents (R34 Clinical Trial Optional)
    • RFA-MH-21-187: Systems-Level Risk Detection and Interventions to Reduce Suicide, Ideation, and Behaviors in Youth from Underserved Populations (R01 Clinical Trial Optional)
    • RFA-MH-21-188: Systems-Level Risk Detection and Interventions to Reduce Suicide, Ideation, and Behaviors in Youth from Underserved Populations (R34 Clinical Trial Optional)

Please note that there are two separate grant types for each of the two categories of FOAs, R01 for large scale projects and R34 for pilot research to develop system-level intervention.

NIMH and partner components intend to commit and estimated $2.5 million to fund up to four awards in response to both R01 and companion R34 FOAs for the Black Children and Adolescents opportunity and the Youth from Underserved Populations opportunity.

A technical assistance webinar will be held for potential applicants on May 3, 2021, from 1:00 - 2:00 pm ET. Please use the following link to access the webinar: https://nih.zoomgov.com/j/1615416783.
