Dr. Mokoro is the co-chair of CSWE's Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education. She is building a new master of social work program at Merrimack College, which will be the first social work program in the Merrimack Valley region of Massachusetts. She is the first African American woman to be tenured at Merrimack College and the first African American to earn full professorship. Prior to Merrimack College, Dr. Mokoro was the chair of the School of Social Work at Salem State University, where she was also the first person of color to become chair and reach the status of full professor in the School of Social Work. One of Dr. Mokoro's passions is supporting, mentoring, and uplifting women (and their work) in social work education. She is the co-editor of a book titled
Feminist Perspectives in Social Work Practice: The Intersecting Lives of Women in the 21st Century. One of Dr. Mokoro's role models and mentors is Dr. Carol Bonner.
Dr. Bonner is the inaugural associate dean for the School of Social Work at Bridgewater State University. This is Dr. Bonner's second inaugural term as associate dean. She is a wise, dedicated, forward-thinking, collaborative leader and has held many leadership positions in social work. She is a past president of the NASW Massachusetts chapter and served as a member of the board's executive committee and chair of the National Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity. Dr. Bonner is a consistent mentor and role model for everyone she meets-especially for women of color in the academy. She always makes time for whoever needs to chat, at any time of the day or week, and is a fierce advocate for her faculty and social work students. Dr. Carol Bonner is a model for groundbreaking, innovative, consistently gracious, and competent leadership in social work education. She is an amazing model for female social work educators!
