Open Rank Tenured/Tenure Track Faculty (2)

The School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill together with the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center invites applications for two open-rank, tenure track positions focused on psychosocial aspects of cancer care and health care policy. The position's academic home will be in the School of Social Work where the selected candidates will join a community of active scholars. Candidates will be expected to engage in all aspects of faculty life: research, teaching, and service and must have the capacity to obtain external funding to support their work. The selected candidates will collaborate closely with an extensive interdisciplinary team at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, an institution that houses linked data sets containing information on cancer patients from across North Carolina. This data can be linked to other significant data sets including Medicaid data to examine service use and policy questions. These positions are not limited to candidates committed to the use of quantitative data. Qualitative and mixed methods researchers are also encouraged to apply. The selected candidates will join a group of researchers that includes faculty members from medicine, nursing, public health, bioinformatics, among others. Currently the School of Social Work has MSW students placed in the cancer center providing supervised clinical care to patients and families. The selected candidates would also be encouraged to engage with the students and practicing social workers within the cancer center to create and promote research that is practice-based. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. These nine-month faculty positions are available July 1, 2023.

Minimum qualifications include a master's degree in social work or related field, and a PhD in social work or related field. One of the degrees must be in social work. Candidates at advanced stages of completing a doctoral dissertation are encouraged to apply. Strong preference will be given to candidates who have at least two years post-MSW practice experience and who have demonstrated experience working with interdisciplinary research teams with track records of external funding.

The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, improve lives. The school's curriculum supports the mission and recognizes the uniqueness of the region served, including concerns for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families, and communities. Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.
