    Position Summary

    The Master of Social Work (MSW) Program at Colby-Sawyer College invites applications for a full-time, 12-month MSW Director of Field Education position. Remote candidates will be given equal consideration. The start date is July 1, 2023.

    We invite strong leaders in the field of social work to work closely with the MSW Program Director in the creation and execution of a field education program associated with a new, fully online, MSW program developed in accordance with 2022 Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation standards. Candidates should possess experience with online course development, familiarity with CSWE core competencies and accreditation standards, and have at least two years of post-MSW clinical experience (licensure strongly preferred). The first student cohort will begin fall 2023.

    Tasks include recruitment, assessment, and ongoing work with community agencies, student advisement and mentoring, teaching a bi-weekly field seminar and 3-credit, online practice courses as aligned with teaching load obligations, and management of all field education components. This position will be required to assist with the program's candidacy process, including Benchmarks II and III of CSWE accreditation.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide leadership, direction, and management of field education, which includes:
      • vetting, approving, and oversight of fieldwork agencies, settings, and supervisors;
      • placement of students in agencies;
      • liaising between students in the field, site supervisors, and instructors as needed;
      • developing and maintaining, with assistance from the Program Director, field education manuals, policies, orientations, and assessment tools for site supervisors and students;
      • managing the field placement application process for students;
      • providing site supervisor (placement site SIFI) training as required;
      • data gathering, analysis, and dissemination concerning student field placement and as outlined by the CSWE;
      • leading field education student orientations.
    • Teach a bi-weekly field seminar and online clinical courses as assigned (fall, spring, and summer semesters).
    • Monitor assigned field placements and communicate with the Program Director regarding any disruptions or issues.
    • With the Program Director, act as mediator when problems arise in the field requiring intervention.
    • Collaborate with academic advisors and instructors to address academic issues as they relate to field placement.
    • Participate in departmental activities through committees as necessary, and involvement in a variety of other professional activities and service to the profession based upon skill set and interests.

    Qualifications

    • An MSW from a CSWE-accredited program.
    • At least two years of post-MSW clinical experience. LCSW/LICSW licensure is strongly preferred.
    • Experience working with placing social work students in field settings, field supervision, and social work field education.
    • Experience in higher education in an online setting and using an online learning management system.
