Dear colleagues,
In light of the growing "Payment for Placements" movement by students nationwide and the problems with ASWB testing, I am thrilled to share that the NASW-MA Chapter worked on a bill that was submitted to the MA legislature last week with the intention to:
- Provide paid social work field placements through a grant program run by the state
- Allow LICSWs to earn CE credits through supervision
- Remove the standardized exam at the LCSW level
Attached is a fact sheet on the act, called the SUPER Act which we, deans and directors in MA, supported. The process also involved activism by social work students in partnership with the Boston Liberation Health group to grow support for the act statewide.
In my capacity as NASW-MA Board Member, I would be delighted to answer questions about the process we went through to get to this point and to connect you with the leadership to learn more about the bill should your states be working on something similar.
Best wishes,
Jorge
