Hello All,

I hope everybody is doing well. We have been seeing colds temps and lots of snow here in NW Montana…ready for spring to show its face!

One of my goals for this spring is to develop and finalize a fully remote/ virtual practicum placement policy. Does your program have a policy in place and are you open to sharing it with me? How about hybrid placement policies? I searched SPARK forums and although remote policies were mentioned, no full policies or language was shared. 

I appreciate learning from other programs' approaches. Thanks in advance!

Hi Kat, we don't have a written policy but share with students that all remote placements are reserved for students with SLDS accomodation requirements. We are working on adding language to our field manual explaining this and informing students that hybrid placements are only available if the agency allows for remote hours to count toward the practicum. Not sure if you are planning to attend the SWDE conference in April, but a couple of colleagues from the University of Louisville and University of Denver and myself will be presenting an interactive workshop on this topic!
