    Hi all!

    I am wondering if anyone has any guidance to offer around using external field instructors for agencies that do not have a BSW/MSW on site.

    Alvernia University just began using external MSW supervisors this academic year. I was an external MSW supervisor myself for another university. We consider them as private contractors. They are paid a flat fee per student per semester. We also require them to carry liability insurance.

    Hi Shenita,

    At Northern Arizona University, we use external or off-site supervisors when the organization is unable to provide supervision. We have two off-site supervisors hired part-time through our department who will each take up to five students per semester to provide social work supervision. We also allow sites to provide off-site supervision if they have a qualified supervisor in a different department/office location or a vetted volunteer committed to the organization.
