Hi colleagues,
I wanted to share a recent piece I published in Education Technology Insights that explores creative methods for enhancing social work practicum education. In the article, I discuss how incorporating low-tech, experiential tools like puppetry can help students engage more deeply with interpersonal skills, reflective practice, and the human side of social work, even in a world increasingly dominated by technology.
The piece came from a desire to reimagine how we prepare students for practice, balancing technology with approaches that foster connection, empathy, and presence. I hope it sparks ideas or conversation about ways we can bring more creativity and experiential learning into field education.

I'd love to hear your thoughts or examples of other creative strategies you've used in practicum settings or pre practicum settings..
Warmly,
Gerald
