    Dear CSWE Member,

As Congress continues to address the COVID-19 pandemic, CSWE encourages its members to consider this voluntary opportunity to urge their Senators to support the Ensuring Understanding of COVID-19 to Protect Public Health Act (S. 3595).  This bill, sponsored by Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and co-sponsored by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), would require the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct a longitudinal study on COVID-19 patients with a diversity of demographics to assist with gaining a full understanding of the health impacts of COVID-19.

You can find the contact information for your Senators here

You can copy and paste the message below if you are emailing your Senator or use it to guide your conversation.

    Dear Senator X,

I am a member of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).  I am contacting you today to request you support the Ensuring Understanding of COVID-19 to Protect Public Health Act (S. 3595).  This bill would require the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct a longitudinal study on COVID-19 patients with a diversity of demographics to assist with gaining a full understanding of the health impacts of COVID-19.

This longitudinal study would be nationwide and include diversity of enrollees to account for race, ethnicity, age, underrepresented populations, and more.  COVID-19 health outcomes have shown a disparate impact on underserved communities and communities of color.  As a result, it is essential that the health outcomes of those infected with COVID-19 be studied across different types of populations.  In addition, so much remains unknown regarding the varying symptoms, mental health impacts, and other health outcomes of individuals infected with COVID-19.  This bill would help ensure that we decrease the current gaps in COVID-19 research and require a summary of findings is available to the public on a periodic basis.

Please consider supporting this bipartisan legislation.  Thank you for your time and consideration of this priority.

    Sincerely,

    Y
