CSWE Government Relations (GR) is sharing the following funding opportunities from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). CSWE GR is able to provide high-level context about these opportunities. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has released two new funding opportunities under the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics – Underserved Populations (RADx-UP) initiative. The goal of the RADx-UP initiative is to understand the factors associated with disparities in COVID-19 morbidity and mortality and provide the foundation to reduce those disparities for those individuals at risk.
The first solicitation is the
RADx-UP – Social, Ethical, and Behavioral Implications (SEBI) Research on Disparities in COVID-19 Testing among Underserved and Vulnerable Populations. This solicitation is seeking applicants to conduct research on SEBI to understand and reduce barriers to COVID-19 testing and to understand the COVID-19 disparities that arise due to barriers in testing. In addition to evaluating these barriers to testing this solicitation is also seeking applicants to focus on research projects that focus on the psychological and communication science interventions that can improve reception to testing and vaccination. The primary aim of this funding opportunity is not to conduct or administer COVID-19 tests but to evaluate the SEBI barriers. These awards are intended to be two-year, community-engaged research projects with a limited budget of
$350,000 in direct costs per year. The NIH intends to provide
$11 million to fund 7 to 10 awards.
The second solicitation is the
RADx-UP Community-Engaged Research on Rapid SARS-CoV-2 Testing among Underserved and Vulnerable Populations. This solicitation is seeking applicants to conduct research to evaluate rapid testing interventions to reduce COVID-19 transmission in underserved and vulnerable populations including schools and childcare settings. In addition, this solicitation is seeking partnership-driven research to implement and evaluate rapid testing and reduce COVID-19 disparities. These awards are also intended to be two-year, community-engaged research projects with a budget of
$700,000 in direct costs per year. The NIH intends to provide
$24 million to fund 12 awards.
Both funding opportunities intend to support Phase III of the RADx-UP initiative. Applicants planning to apply are strongly encouraged to speak with the relevant program officers listed in each solicitation.
