  • 1.  Licensure for Field Instructors in different states

    Hi Everyone,

We are developing our MSW program and I'm curious as to how others manage placements in different states regarding licensure of field instructors.  I do not believe that they need to be licensed to supervise and therefore, licensure is not an issue from an academic standpoint outside the bounds that they are obligated to practice in their scope of practice as regulated by the state they live in.  What are you doing in your programs?

    Thank you in advanced.

    Hi Penny,

as you said, since licensure is not required per CSWE accreditation standards, we ask that all of our AFIs have an MSW from a CSWE accredited program and at least 2 years of post-degree experience. If that is not the case, we support the student in finding alternative MSW supervision on site OR add them to an outside biweekly MSW supervision group through our School (outside supervisors get paid $50/hour to serve in this role, they do NOT serve as the AFI so do not approve the learning agreement, timesheets or provide task based supervision on site). In short, licensure in their state is great but not needed.

    Hi Katharina,

Thank you.  That's what I thought but I got thrown by a question I was asked.
I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my question.
