We are working on putting together a BSW junior seminar.  I'm wondering for those of you that have a junior seminar what does yours look like?  How many credits? what are the topics? etc

    Thank you

    Hi,

We have a junior field experience.  The class is 3 credits and is called Social Work Practice with Individuals and Families  and has a 100 hour internship attached to it.  The class meets 1x a week for 3 hours and has a 1 credit lab students also take.

    Here is the course description:

This practice course introduces students to the basic processes of social work and the roles and skills needed for generalist social work practice. Through the lens of social justice and human rights, relevant theories of social work practice with individuals and families are explored in relation to interviewing skills and assessment strategies. The course integrates ethical/value standards, multicultural and diverse contexts, and populations at risk. Effective practice methods, ethical issues, and the problem-solving process are incorporated. Students must earn a "C" or better in this class or it will have to be repeated and this may delay a student's ability to move forward in the program.

    Hi Penny
We have a Junior Field Course also. It is the first of our 3 semester BSW field experience. Students are required to do 80 hours and we meet for Field Integration Seminar 6 times, 2 hours each. Topics include the basics of being a field student, ethics, biases, leadership, supervision, etc. Our Field Sequence doc contains the details of our field courses. Let me know if you'd like to chat - I love talking about BSW Field!
