CSWE Government Relations (GR) is sharing the following resource from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  CSWE GR is able to provide high-level context about this event.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced through its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative UNITE, a series of listening sessions for NIH stakeholders to discuss racial and ethnic equity at the NIH. The listening sessions are aligned with UNITE's efforts to gather feedback from key stakeholders at every level within the biomedical research community on methods to address the issues and challenges facing diverse talent within the biomedical research workforce.

As a reminder, the UNITE initiative was established in February 2021 to identify and address structural racism within the biomedical research enterprise. The first effort of outreach to NIH stakeholders included a Request for Information (RFI) inviting comments and suggestions to advance and strengthen racial equity, diversity, and inclusion in the biomedical research workforce and advance health disparities and health equity research. This RFI received more than 1,000 responses.

The UNITE listening sessions will take place from December 1-14, 2021 and January 11 – February 1, 2022. The listening sessions will include targeted sessions for colleges and universities, Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), foundations and professional societies, and more.
