Voting is Social Work and CSWE Webinar

There are more than 50,000 students, faculty members, and administrators at more than 840 accredited social work programs. If each of these people were registered to vote – and then helped 3 others register – that would equate to 200,000 voters heading to the polls this year.

Join a live webinar at 2:30 PM (ET), on May 26, to learn how social work educators and students are mobilizing voters. Attendees will come away from the program with resources and tips to help register people to vote in their own campuses and communities.

"Voting matters. Our elected officials make decisions that affect us deeply, such as who is appointed to the Supreme Court, how society treats those who have been marginalized and discriminated against, and even attempt to control what we can teach in the classroom,” said CSWE President and CEO Darla Spence Coffey, PhD, MSW.

“The stakes could not be higher with voter suppression, election subversion, and even book banning on the rise. Our Democracy is on the brink of failing all of us unless we learn how to make our voices heard at the polls,” said Mimi Abramovitz, MSW, DSW, co-chair of the Voting is Social Work Campaign. She and other leaders of the Voting is Social Work campaign have arranged for students, faculty members, and administrators to discuss their voter registration campaigns during the webinar, including:

  • Tanya Smith Brice, PhD, MSW, CSWE Vice President of Education;
  • Mimi Abramovitz MSW, DSW, Bertha Capen Reynolds Professor of Social Policy at the Silberman School of Social Work, Hunter College CUNY, Co-Chair of Voting is Social Work;
  • Terry Mizrahi, MSW, PhD, Professor Emerita at the Silberman School of Social Work, Hunter College CUNY, Co-Chair of Voting is Social Work;
  • Stacey R. Kolomer, PhD, MSSW, Professor and Director of the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington;
  • Simone Akila Rustkamp, MSW student at the Howard University School of Social Work;
  • Andriana Paez, MSW, Assistant Professor and Field Coordinator at the School of Social Work at the University of Missouri - Kansas City; and
  • Sanjana Ragudaran, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Monmouth University School of Social Work.
